The Old Pine Box

This is our most popular casket because of the stunningly beautiful grains and red knots of the pine in contrast to the deep browns and yellows of the western cedar trim which accents the casket. This is the casket most often chosen if there is to be a ceremony in a church or mortuary chapel or graveside services with the casket present. Our pine box is sanded satin smooth with all corners and edges rounded smooth to mellow and soften the casket's appearance. We strive to make our Pine & Cedar casket worthy to be used in the most magnificent cathedral, the humblest chapel, or in your home.

The wood used in our Pine Box is 3/4 inch plywood veneer with beautiful knotty pine on both sides, which means that both the outside and the inside is knotty pine with its swirling red knots contrasting with the wavy brown grain. The trim is western cedar, which contrasts with the lighter pine and outlines and defines the entire casket. Upper edge moldings on this casket are cut at 45 degree angles as are the trim pieces around the lid.

Handles are a single smooth rail running most of the casket length. They are beveled on the underside to form efficient, comfortable hand holds and are embellished with a modest, shiny brass screw at each end.

The lids of these caskets are either split at approximately one third of the length or left as one solid piece at the purchaser's choice. The lid is affixed with gleaming, brass plated hinges.

After construction the entire casket is sanded to a baby smooth feel with all outer corners and edges semi quarter rounded to give the piece a softer look, with no sharp feel or appearance.

Your casket / furniture piece is then oil rubbed inside and out with natural oil, which, while protecting the wood, also brings out the true rich beauty of all the woods used. While simple our caskets are, we think, quite elegant.
