HEIRLOOM BABY CRADLES
As well as our caskets, we also make one-of-a-kind heirloom baby cradles in several styles and using a variety of hard or softwoods. Our most popular styles sit on the floor on wooden rockers. Some people prefer the hooded style either with or without stained glass in the back and top of the hood. Others prefer the cradle more open and choose a style which does not have a hood. We've made hardwood cradles out of solid cherry, black walnut, oak, and mahogany. For softwood cradles we usually use pine, fir and cedar. Should you have some special wood tucked away somewhere, we will accommodate custom orders and can use any species of wood you might wish for a piece of furniture which will last and be used from generation to generation. Our cradles are truly heirlooms. When we make baby cradles we make them to last for a long time. The rockers, bottoms, sides and ends of our cradles are of thick, heavy wood, usually a full 1-1/8 to 1-1/4 inch thick. Only the hood and back are of slightly smaller dimension wood, usually 3/4 inch to 1-inch in thickness. All major components are attached with glue and screws. Our heirloom cradles are designed to withstand generations of babies, and their older brothers and sisters. 0ur most popular cradles are made with two pieces of stained glass inlaid into the wood, one in the back of the cradle and a smaller piece in the top panel of the hood. Then when the cradle is set where the sun shines in, the baby is bathed in color. These colors become especially brilliant when beveled glass is incorporated into the design. We encourage the purchaser to shop for the stained glass, thus ensuring that the glass we inlay into your special heirloom cradle is your unique choice and will stay significant to you and your family for many years to come. If, however, you want us to select the glass for your cradle, we will be happy to do so and the price of the purchase will be added to the final cost. |
